Guide: How Do You Keep a Split King Bed Together?
Last Updated on December 12, 2024

A split king bed is an excellent choice for couples needing different support and comfort levels, giving each partner total customization options—without bothering the other! But, if you’ve never tried a split king, you may wonder if having two separate mattresses can cause any issues, like the two beds sliding apart as you navigate your base.
The good news is that all split king GhostBed mattresses are designed to sit snugly together when you use them with our Adjustable Base. Most people don’t feel any kind of gap or experience any issues.
If you are worried, though, below are the 5 tips that our Sleep Experts share with our customers.
Tip #1. Secure the Leg Straps
Our Split King Adjustable Base comes with velcro straps that you can use to keep your bed together. All you do is attach them where the two beds meet, at the head and foot. Alternatively, you can also use zip ties, a bungee cord or velcro straps in a pinch to keep a split king bed together.
Tip #2. Grab Some Non-Slip Furniture Coasters
If your bedroom has hardwood, tile or laminate flooring, we suggest you buy some non-slip furniture coasters. Furniture coasters will create just the right amount of friction to keep your split king bed firmly in place (even if you’re known to dive in).
Tip #3. Try a Gap-Filler
Another option, if you're trying to even out the gap between your mattresses, is to invest in a “bed wedge” or “gap filler.” These usually come made of foam and work by placing the wedge between your two mattresses. Keep in mind, though, that when you use this type of accessory, you won't be able to enjoy the independent operation of your two bases; they will be connected.
Tip #4. Add a King Size Memory Foam Topper
If you’d like to keep your split king bed together, then a king-sized mattress topper might be the solution. Our memory foam topper has a custom cover featuring an innovative 2” GhostGrip elastic band around the edges that ensures everything stays firmly in place. Remember, though, using a king-sized topper means you won’t be able to elevate one side at a time.
Tip #5. Attach a Headboard
Add a headboard to keep your split king bed stationary and secure. And don’t worry if you’re partial to your existing headboard. All you need is a set of headboard brackets to make it work, which are sold separately here at GhostBed.
Secure Sleep You Can Count On
Whether it's zip ties, the included straps, or any of the other tips we went through above, there are plenty of ways to ensure that your split king bed stays securely in place throughout the night.
No matter which method you choose, we hope these tips will give you peace of mind. Still have questions? Give our Sleep Experts a call or chat with us live and we’ll be happy to help.
